IICRC – the gorilla in the Cleaning and Restoration Industry

Once again the Home Cleaning Technician (HCT) certification course kicked off this year’s Association of Residential Cleaning Services International (ARCSI) Convention.  As residential surfaces become more varied and prone to damage from improper cleaning, we have seen increasing interest in this course offered by the Institute for Service Excellence (ISE).  A major emphasis of the course is the identification and proper care of today’s diverse surfaces.  The class and test following it can lead to certification by the Institute for Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), the world’s largest certifying body in the cleaning and restoration.

Great Feedback for the Course and Teacher

This year I was honored to not only include registrants from some of the best independent house cleaning services in the country, but from some franchises as well.  I find that teaching can be exhausting (2 days for total instruction time of 14 hours is a lot of standing and talking) but extremely rewarding as well.  Perhaps the warmest moments of success come from the individual technicians who say they now understand that their job is important and truly has meaning.  It is also so gratifying to get comments from large, established companies’ representatives saying that they learned a lot and that we have impacted their company overall.

As the residential house cleaning industry becomes more professional our customers are the beneficiaries.  A trained House Cleaning Technician not only knows the best and safest ways to care for their customers’ possessions, they can also provide valuable insight when it comes time to replace surfaces.  At Town & Country Cleaning we are actively pursuing additional training with the goal of having a certified technician on every job.  Of course, Sarah and I are available for consultation both for other companies and for our clients.  After all, we did write the book (along with some fellow professionals).
