Part 3 of a Series:  House Cleaning as a Life and Death Matter.  We had an interesting case develop while working with a new client whose spouse had just undergone a lung transplant. We had already begun offering free cleaning to women battling cancer through the charity: http://www.cleaningforareason.org. Our new clients,”Emily and Clark Jones” needed us to kill germs but keep strong odors and toxins to an absolute minimum. This led us to new technology and a chemical-free house cleaning system.

It’s a Rare House Cleaning Company that Uses Air Scrubbers and Steamer Cleaners

Emily followed a thin thread of hope and gave us a call.  After speaking with our office for a few minutes, she asked us to come as soon as possible for an initial clean.

Bruce and I briefed the team, stressing the importance of a thorough dust-down for the entire house.  We needed extra attention to those rooms where Clark would spend the majority of his recovery time.

We sent the crew off with a H.E.P.A.-level air scrubber. This scrubber would be rolled into each room as they performed the dust-down.  This model of air scrubber moves about 450 cubic feet of air a minute or more through its massive filters. It successfully traps up to 99.97 per cent of fine particles (down to .3 microns) from that moving air.

This filtration is extremely important to our patient and to many others who react to allergens.  The smallest item we can see (a human hair) is roughly 50 microns in size. Why is this so important? Particles smaller than we can see that are under 10 microns in size are ‘respirable’. They can cause harm, even to healthy lungs, let alone to vulnerable lungs such as Clark’s.

Cleaning with a Dry-Steam Generator: a Disinfecting Device!

Special steam listed by the EPA as a Disinfecting Device!

A Dry Steam generator aka an EPA-listed disinfecting Device

After dusting and for the majority of the remaining cleaning, the team used a low-moisture steam generator with TANCS–registered as a Disinfecting Device by the EPA.  The steamer with the TANCS system is the only machine to achieve that distinction to our knowledge.  We also cleaned with de-ionized water and used high quality, hospital-grade microfiber cloths and flat mops.  Like distilled water, de-ionized water means that hard-water minerals and other total dissolved solids are reduced to zero. This is what we call ‘dirt-craving’ water and it cleans extremely well.

Bruce walked the house while the crew was there. Emily was thrilled with the results of the first clean and went on to schedule us for weekly visits.  This client has been a pleasure to work with — she appreciates the peace of mind we have been able to give her and has sung our praises to the Pulmonary Clinic at Duke and offered to take our brochures into their office.

From this and other experiences (we have since cared for another client going through the same procedure) we have realized that we need to get the word out about using a Chemical Free Cleaning system.  It also highlights the negative impact that something as ordinary as household dust can have on people. Whether they are undergoing organ transplants, struggling with rigorous cancer-treatment regimens or, more commonly, suffering from allergic and asthmatic attacks, true chemical free cleaning can offer welcome relief and improved safety and health.

Chemical Free Cleaning — cleaning with water and steam — means cleaning without odors, without volatile organic compounds and without chemicals — pure and simple water, cleaning at its purest:  BEYOND GREEN
