House Cleaning as a Life ans Death Matter (The Actual Case of a Lung Transplant Patient)

Most of the time, we take house cleaning for granted. We make detailed lists for ourselves or for our cleaning service if we have that luxury–but most of us also think “it’s not rocket science”,right? Maybe … or maybe not. We had an interesting case develop while working with a new client whose spouse had just undergone a lung transplant.

Cleaning for Health more than for Appearance

This was a relatively new area for us–lung transplantation is not that common a procedure, but Duke University Medical Center has a renowned pulmonary division with multiple patients emerging with new lung(s) and in need of special care, for both them and their immediate environment. Through our voluntary cleaning for women battling cancer (donating cleans via the Cleaning For A Reason non-profit group) we had developed a chemical-free system for patients actively battling cancer and thus undergoing radical treatments involving chemotherapy or radiation treatments or both. Many of these patients were sensitive to chemicals and strong odors so we were trying hard to find a way to clean thoroughly… yet kill germs and keep strong odors and toxins to an absolute minimum. This led us to new technology and a chemical free house cleaning system.
