What a time of year to be going to the Carrboro Farmers’ Market.  There is just a bounty of fresh produce.  Tomatoes (yes, the heirloom varieties are fully in season and available) as well as corn, squash and peppers of all kinds.

Once you taste fresh produce picked truly ripe, it’s hard to go back to the store-bought ones.  Heirloom tomato slices interspersed with fresh mozzarella from Chapel Hill Dairy, served with a dressing of fresh basil and garlic allowed to mingle in olive oil then infused with a last-minute drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar, makes a fabulous summer salad or even a meal!

Incredible corn really is “incredible”.  Grilled steaks from McAdams’ pasture-raised cattle, is some of the best I have ever had – and I’ve enjoyed a lot of steaks!  Don’t forget fabulous fresh eggs with gold-orange yolks and flowers of all colors.

Unfortunately the rain has been a challenge for many farmers and yields are down.  So arrive early for the best selection.  Last Saturday many things (especially those listed above) were sold out by 10:00 AM.  The Carrboro Farmers’ Market is one of the great resources for our community.  If you’re not already going, you will be amazed at the delight in store for you — check it out soon.
