Chapel Hill will soon live up to its title of the “allergy capital of the world.” Spring is just around the corner — that can spell real trouble for those afflicted with allergies or asthma.
Did you know?
- General cleaners of nearly all types can be triggers to asthmatics and do adversely impact the air in the home as they are used — and even long after?
- Many vacuums suck up the allergens from carpets and hard floors but also release them into clouds of invisible but irritating mini-dust storms in their wake, leaving these irritants circulating for hours and even days?
- Cleaners, especially disinfectants, can leave toxic residues on surfaces that can
- Be absorbed through the skin and be found in every organ of the body within seconds?
- Become airborne to cause havoc for anyone with respiratory problems?
Here’s how you can help your loved ones or yourself:
- Perform a DEEP clean of the room where they spend the most time—their bedroom.
- Working from high to low, use a high-filtration and bagged vacuum to perform extensive dusting, especially targeting any heavy deposits such as ceiling fans, blinds, etc.
- We can add a high-volume HEPA air-scrubber during this step. (Call for more info)
- Replace any uptake air filters with allergen-proof, convoluted filters
- Follow that dusting with another dust-down using a high-quality microfiber cloth
- end with vacuuming all flooring with that high-filtration vacuum.
- Mattresses can be steam-cleaned—killing bugs as well as deactivating their irritatants.
- Finally, get rugs or carpeting (the best ongoing filters in your house) deep cleaned with steam extraction (recommended by the Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) and by all major carpet manufacturers at least annually).
- Clean the rest of the house
- Use a steam generator, preferably with the TANCS system (ask us), to clean counters, floors, bathrooms, etc. – all surfaces that will tolerate steam-cleaning
- Alternatively, clean all surfaces that will tolerate water-cleaning with distilled water
- Dust thoroughly, again from top to bottom, using the high-filtration vacuum for heavy deposits
- Vacuum thoroughly, using a CRI gold-rated vacuum to avoid creating those irritating dust clouds. Seal off or else dispose of their used bags outside of the home.
